Activity 1: Ice Breaking

Completing the vocational rating scale questionnaire

The result of the questionnaire would be collected for evaluation in the later stages of the programme.

Self-introduction by mentors and mentees

As this is the first time for the mentors and mentees to meet with each other, they are provided a chance to introduce themselves at the beginning.

Ice Breaking Games

Ice-breaking games allow mentors and mentees to get along with each other in an interactive and interesting method.

Communication between mentors and mentees

Mentors and mentees will be introduced to each other and they are given time to chat and interact as to foster their friendships.

What is a vocational rating scale questionnaire?

This questionnaire is a widely-used instrument with high internal consistency reliability (α = .94) in researches and is significantly correlated to students’ level of confidence in their vocational decisions (Taylor, 1985).

It assesses the crystallization of vocational self-concept referring to “the degree of clarity and certainty of separate vocationally relevant self-concepts and the structure of the self-concepts as a whole” (Tinsley, Bowman, & York, 1989).

What is the use of this questionnaire?

This result of this questionnaire would serve as a pre-test result and would compare with the protest result (which would be done at the last stage of this programme).

We compare the differences in the mean score of all sum of items to indicate the effectiveness of this programme in fostering the development of vocational self-concept. This could serve as a reference and provide us with suggestions on how to improve such related programme in the future.
